If your kids love building with LEGO bricks as much as mine do, you’re going to love this idea: making your own LEGO wall — using removable, flexible brick tape!

A LEGO wall is a fantastic way to take creativity to the next level, letting kids build sideways, upside down, and in 3D. It transforms any surface into a building site!

What is Brick Tape?

Brick tape is a flexible strip that has building brick “studs” on one side and a peel-and-stick adhesive on the other.
It’s designed to be compatible with LEGO bricks and other standard building blocks.

You can:

  • Stick it to walls, tables, furniture, or boards

  • Wrap it around corners and edges

  • Cut it to custom sizes

  • Create vertical, angled, and upside-down building surfaces!

While the original Mayka tape we used is no longer to be found now, there are several great brands of LEGO-compatible brick tape available online and in stores today.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Choose your surface:

  • For a removable LEGO wall, use a piece of bead board or foam board.
  • This way, you can move the building surface without damaging walls.

Plan your layout:

  • Decide whether you want straight rows, a spiral, zig-zags, or a large building grid.
  • Tip: If you plan to build tall towers or cities, leave enough space between tape strips!

Cut the tape:

  • Measure and cut the tape to the lengths you need.
  • Brick tape is flexible and can be shaped around edges or corners if you want a 3D design.

Peel and stick:

  • Carefully peel off the adhesive backing.
  • Press the tape firmly onto your board or surface, lining up the studs neatly.

Start building:

  • Grab your LEGO bricks and start creating!
  • Build towers, cities, mazes, cars, and more — the only limit is imagination!

Tips for Using Brick Tape

  • Protect painted walls:
Brick tape adhesives are strong. To avoid peeling paint, stick the tape to a board or another removable surface rather than directly onto walls.

  • Kid-powered setup:
Kids can easily cut, peel, and stick the tape themselves! (You might just want to supervise cutting.)

  • Custom shapes:
Try cutting the tape into small shapes (circles, waves, curves) to make creative design elements.

  • Mix and match colors:
Brick tape comes in lots of colors. Mix and match to create colorful building zones!

A Fun Father’s Day (or Any Day) Project

When we first built our LEGO wall, it turned into an incredible father-son project.
My husband and my son worked together to lay out the tape and then immediately launched into building a whole LEGO city!

Even before Dad got home, my son had already started building — that’s how excited he was!

Building a LEGO wall makes a perfect Father’s Day gift idea, a birthday surprise, or just a fun weekend project that turns into hours of creative play.
