You are going to love this cute Root Vegetables Tops and Bottoms Flip Book! Â This activity was inspired by the book Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens. It’s an adorable Caldecott winning picture book that we love at our house.
If you haven’t ever read the book Tops and Bottoms, it’s about a clever rabbit who tricks a bear into going into a farming business with him. He asks bear which half of the crops he wants, the tops of the bottoms? Â When the bear chooses tops, he plants root vegetables such as carrots and beets, and gives bear the leaves. The next time the bear chooses the bottoms and the rabbit plants lettuce, broccoli and celery and gives bear the roots.
It’s a silly book that will get kids laughing, but also teach them about how different vegetables grow.
How to Assemble the Root Vegetables Tops and Bottoms Flip Book
I made this flip book using root vegetables that are cut through the middle. There is a title page and a bak cover page to hold it all together. The book has six different root vegetables included: turnip, carrot, radish, onion, garlic and beet.
Hole punch each top and bottom. Â Then attach all of them together with 2 rings. Â But when you attach them, make sure they are in mixed up order!
To use, flip the pages and try to match the tops of the vegetables to the bottom of the vegetables correctly. Â The front of the book has a picture to help you if you get stuck since some of them are pretty similar.
Isn’t this fun? Â It’s a simple activity to put together and so fun for kids to play with. This is a perfect book and activity to read when planting your own gardens! Â Try growing some root vegetables with your kids this Summer.
