Looking for a great recycled craft to do with your kids?  Try this Rainbow Collage craft. It’s a recycled magazine craft that my kids had a blast doing!

I have been saving magazines and catalogs for a little while because I usually think of something fun to do with them.  I had this fun idea recently to make a giant rainbow collage and my kids and I both enjoyed doing this project together.

How to Make the Rainbow Collage

I drew a big rainbow on a large sheet of white craft paper.  I wrote in the color words, but wrote them with markers in the matching color so that my daughter who isn’t reading well yet knew which row was which.

Then we looked through all of our magazines and catalogs for pictures in all the colors of the rainbow. We used Family Fun magazine and Parents magazines as well as Oriental Trading & children’s catalogs so the kids could find pictures of fun kid-friendly things that they really enjoyed. You could also save the mailers with ads that come pretty regularly.

We cut out all of the colorful pictures and glued them into each row. This is a great activity for teaching colors, rainbow order, and sorting.  It is also a great activity to practice cutting skills.
Did you know doing crafts can teach so many educational skills, too?
I think the finished rainbow collage is beautiful!   It was a fun creation to hang on our school room wall for a while and admire our beautiful art.
