Spring Bird Craft for Kids: Cute & Simple Nest

Spring is in the air—and so are the birds! If you’re looking for a cute and simple spring bird craft for kids, this easy nest project is the perfect way to celebrate the season. It’s hands-on, creative, and great for sparking conversations about birds, nature, and new beginnings.
We made this sweet bird nest craft after a lovely spring day filled with sunshine, seed planting, and book reading. The kids loved creating their own birds and giving them cozy little nests—and even named their birds afterward (ours is named Jewel, just like the bird in Rio!).

How to Make This Easy Spring Bird Craft
This is such a simple craft, but the results are darling—and it’s perfect for preschoolers, early elementary students, or a homeschool nature unit.
Supplies You’ll Need:
-
Shredded paper (green and tan work well)
-
Printable bird template to color and cut out (or draw your own!)
-
Scissors, crayons or markers
-
Optional: small paper eggs or pom-poms to add to the nest
Instructions:
-
Roll down the top of the paper bag all the way to the bottom to create a “nest” shape.
-
Fill the inside with shredded paper to make it look soft and cozy.
-
Color and cut out your bird, then place it inside the nest.
-
Add a few small eggs if you’d like—draw your own or use blue pom-poms for robin-style eggs!
You can even name your bird and give it a story. Ours lives in a cardboard castle that’s currently set up in the playroom—apparently the perfect perch!
