We love art at our house. My kids love to paint especially. Any time I mention paint they get excited. Lately, though, we have explored a few new art mediums, and loved it.
During our Van Gogh artist study time we found these great Starry Night printables. Instead of the usual- paint or crayons, we instead tried out some oil pastels. They were really a hit with my kids. They loved being able to mix the colors. I had so much fun as well. Plus, I think they enjoyed having the outline of the picture to try and imitate the original.
Another new kind of medium we recently used was watercolor pencils. These are fun to use because you color them then paint over them. We had fun learning to blend colors. We tried to make brown with a mix of colors and tried mixing all sorts of colors to see what they would look like. We used a color grid and mixed different colors in each square. It’s a great way to learn which colors mix well and which don’t make very pretty colors when mixed!
